Hydro Dip [MakerID-15]

Hydro-dipping and 3D Printing

Our project is hydro-dipping. Hydro-dipping is an amazing technique to take a flat image and transfer it onto a three dimensional surface. Our objective is to learn how to hydro-dip. Then we can implement that skill to change the appearance of objects. I was inspired to try this project because I had seen other people hydro-dipping on the internet before and I thought it looked really interesting.

Yet a project like this faced challenges. We had trouble with figuring out what materials we needed. The instructions online have many differing techniques. We eventually settled for the basic materials.

We learned the basic process of hydro dipping, even if we never were able to do it. Something else we learned is that if you ask for something you often get it. We called a company that supplies hydro dipping materials, and they gave us a discounted price. If we had more time we would hydro dip multiple objects. For others who want to try this project or a similar project here is our advice: Have enough materials to do the procedure multiple times. If you mess up then you want enough stuff do re-do the project.

Overall the project costs around $70 dollars if you want to secure a good final product. However you can lower it to $40-$45 and take a risk.
